What a privilege to get to spend the day with these women and the kids at Wheatley. I know there are so many in need that the task of making a difference is daunting but it really takes so little to put a smile on a kids face and to make their day a little better than the one before it. In reality serving them does more for me than I am sure it does for them. Gives perspective, reminds you of blessings, and makes you want to do more. Makes you want to be better.
80% of the kids at this school are considered "homeless". If that is without a home literally or not living with a blood relative or in the system and there are many of them. I don't know how you go about teaching in an environment when your primary focus is basic needs well before education--God bless these teachers, and look after these kids.
